ESDANA Privacy Policy — iPhone & iPad App
This policy explains what information the ESDANA app for iPhone and iPad collects, why, who can see it, and the choices you have over your data.
Who the App is For
ESDANA is a private network for former students of BAF Shaheen College. You need an account to use it, and each new account is reviewed by an ESDANA maintainer before it is approved. The app is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Information You Give Us
Account and Profile
- Required: Name, email address, password, batch number, and school house.
- Optional: Phone number, gender, username, date of birth, city, address, a short bio, profile photo, LinkedIn address, and other social links.
- Career & Education: Your work history and education records, if you add them under Profile settings.
Content You Create
- Posts, comments, replies, and attached photos.

- Job posts, saved jobs, and classified ads, including the contact details you choose to display on an ad.
- Donation pledges: the cause, amount, optional message, and anonymous preference.
- Connection requests you send, accept, or decline.
- Reports you submit about a post, including the reason provided.
- Sponsorship enquiries: name, email, company, phone number, and message.
Information Collected Automatically
- Notification Token: Issued through Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver push alerts to this device.
- Device Name: Stored so you can recognize and manage your active signed-in devices.
- Time Zone: Used to display event schedules accurately in your local time and respect notification quiet hours.
- Activity Status: Online indicator and viewed post indicators (post authors can see verified member viewers).
- Server Logs: Standard request logs including timestamps, URLs, and IP address for diagnostic and security purposes.
Tracking & App Tracking Transparency (ATT)
The ESDANA app does not track you.
We do not link your personal information with third-party data from other companies' apps or websites for targeted advertising, and we do not share your data with data brokers. The app contains zero advertising and no commercial analytics SDKs, so it does not trigger the iOS App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt.
Permissions on Your iPhone or iPad
- Camera: Requested only when you explicitly tap "Take a photo" to snap a picture for a post or profile avatar.
- Photos: Requested only when you choose to attach an existing photo. Only the exact photos you select are sent to the app. Photos are compressed on your device before transmission.
- Notifications: Requested during onboarding so we can notify you about connection requests, comments, and event reminders. You can decline and still use the app.
You can modify iOS permissions at any time via Settings > ESDANA on your device.
How We Use Information
- To create and secure your alumni account and keep you signed in.
- To display your profile, posts, and activities to other verified alumni.
- To run the alumni directory, events, jobs, classifieds, photo albums, donation campaigns, and house rankings.
- To deliver push notifications you have opted into.
- To enable maintainers to review membership applications and moderate reported content.
- To protect the network, troubleshoot faults, and prevent malicious abuse.
We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.
Who Can See Your Information
Other approved members can view your name, photo, batch, house, profile, and posts according to your chosen audience (Public, Connections, or Only Me).
Privacy Controls in the App (Menu > Settings > Privacy)
- Who can see your phone number, email address, and location (Public, Batchmates, Connections, or Only Me).
- Lock your profile so only confirmed connections can see detailed history.
- Hide your birthday from batchmates.
Donations, Public Links & Maintainers
- Donations: Your name is listed on a campaign cause unless you choose "Keep my name private" (listed as "Anonymous").
- Public Web Links: Sharing a post or event externally opens a public web overview page.
- Maintainers: ESDANA administrators can review join requests, verification batch data, and reported posts.
- Service Providers: Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and Google Firebase deliver notifications. Cloud hosting servers store encrypted data.
Payments & In-App Purchases
The ESDANA iOS app does not take payments and does not use Apple In-App Purchase (IAP).
A charitable donation or paid event registration is recorded as a non-binding pledge. You complete the contribution outside the app using external manual channels (such as Zelle, bKash, wire transfer, or check) as instructed by the organizer. The app never asks for, handles, or stores credit card or banking details.
Information Stored on Your Device
- Sign-in Token: Stored securely in the iOS Keychain.
- App Preferences: Language choice, text size, and color theme.
- Image Cache: Temporary cache of viewed photos.
Signing out clears the authentication token from the iOS Keychain. Deleting the app removes all local settings and cached data from the device.
Keeping & Deleting Your Information
You can initiate self-serve account deletion directly within the iOS app: navigate to Menu > Settings > Delete my account, enter your password, and confirm. This immediately and permanently deletes your account, personal details, and posts without requiring a support email or external website.
If you cannot sign in, email [email protected] from the address on your account and our administration will process the deletion for you.
User-Generated Content & Moderation (Guideline 1.2)
Members can report objectionable content or abusive posts directly from the three-dot post menu ("Report this post"). ESDANA maintainers review all reported content promptly and take enforcement action, including post removal and account termination for community violations.
Security & Processing
All traffic between the iOS app and our servers is secured over encrypted HTTPS connections. Account passwords are not stored on your device. Data is processed and hosted in secure North American data centers.
